I lurk around the internet a lot, but i’m always looking for interesting little projects other people are doing. I usually find unfinished or ditched projects that people made for whatever purpose it’s for, like D&D name generators and stuff.
So usually I am looking for something specific to making worlds or new ways to present my ideas.
Then i found this wonderful person that made some really fun Generators.
So get this, this website can generate 3 different types of density for cities. but hey does your city have a castle? or does it have a cathedral you can decide to put one or not… it can even be altered if you like the map but would like to change it a tad. This thing is amazing.
So yeah you like you’re map, its pretty cool, but your’e a 3D artist, and you’d like to get some elevation off of this map. Usually you’d just have this map in jpg and project it off a plane then place boxes where boxes are… But what if i told you it can export svg, so it keeps the vectors of all the shapes? Not good enough? what if i told you, you can save a json file too? Now you’re like “so?” I’m going somewhere with this.
He has another website where you can take that json file and it will generate a 3D realtime render of the city, BLAM!
I know! insane right?! yeah i’m so into this. So for me what I’ve figured out is that i can just take this and download the obj file so i could put it in 3ds max or Blender ( the programs i use for 3D). Now from there i could use it as a blocking for every building and create prefab windows and doors and other assets like crown molding and stuff like the way they made buildings in Gears of War 1. But yeah all i wanted was something that has a more natural arrangement of buildings forming a city . I’ve always felt like i was taking too much time figuring that out. With it i could make a VR City or I could just use it to make new drawings of cities. So many possibilities! can’t wait to do them all! ^_^
